A drake American wigeon, the “baldpate,” is one of the most underrated ducks on the wall: a cream-white crown, an iridescent green eye stripe, a pinkish body, and a bright white shoulder patch that flashes in flight. Wigeon mounts are a favorite with hunters who want something other than a mallard, and the medium size fits almost anywhere. Stehling’s Taxidermy has mounted wigeon since 1978, in-house at our Jefferson, Wisconsin studio. Any wigeon mount is $575.

Wigeon Mount Poses
Flying Wigeon
The white shoulder patch shows best with the wings open, so a flying drake wigeon on a wall bracket is our most requested pose for the species.
Standing Wigeon
A drake on a mud bar or a piece of driftwood, relaxed or alert. Wigeon graze on land more than most ducks, so a standing pose looks natural.
Swimming Wigeon Pair
Drake and hen on a clear water base. The hen’s warm brown sets off the drake’s colors.
Eurasian Wigeon
Shot a Eurasian wigeon drake with the rusty head? That is a rare bird in the Midwest and we would love to mount it. Same price.
Wigeon Mount Pricing
$575 for any wigeon pose. Simple driftwood base $65 extra or standard habitat scene $150 extra (one or the other); water scenes and custom displays quoted. Pay in full, 50/50, three installments, or monthly through our Easy 8 Payment Plan. Standard delivery 12 to 14 months; rush at 180, 90, or 30 days. Full price list.
Field Care for a Wigeon Mount
- Pick it up by the feet and keep the crown feathers dry and unruffled.
- Wipe blood right away and plug the bill with paper towel.
- Don’t gut it. Tuck the bird’s head under its wing, place it in one or two Ziploc bags or garbage bags, and freeze it.
- Late October and November drakes have the fullest white crown and the cleanest color.
