What defines a great puddle duck mount
Puddle ducks are the most frequently mounted waterfowl in North America, and for good reason — their plumage detail is some of the finest in the duck family. Mallards, wood ducks, pintails, teal (blue-wing, green-wing, and cinnamon), wigeon, gadwall, shovelers, and black ducks all live on this page.
Every puddle duck we take in goes through the same process: inspection, hand-skinning, fleshing, washing, and meticulous feather re-alignment. The specific iridescence of a wood duck head, the precise speculum color on a mallard, the delicate penciling on a pintail — these are the details that separate a trophy-grade mount from a catalog mount.

Puddle duck mounting rates
Base rates for standard poses, per bird. Habitat, groupings and specialty work are quoted per project. Geese, cranes and swans are on the full price list.
Get the most out of your bird
The 30 seconds after the bird hits the ground matter more than anything we do in the studio. Follow these basics to protect your mount:
- Do NOT gut or field-dress the bird
- Smooth feathers in natural direction before freezing
- Tuck the bird’s head under its wing, place it in one or two Ziploc bags or garbage bags, and freeze it
- Label the bag with the species and date; avoid bending the neck or wings
