How much does an upland game bird mount cost?

Pheasant, grouse, partridge, woodcock and most other upland birds are $575 per bird. Doves are $675. Custom habitat bases, multi-bird groupings and full dioramas are quoted individually — see our pricing page for the complete list.

What poses can you do for an upland bird?

Flying and flushing poses, standing and strutting poses, wall-mounted birds and habitat-based table pieces are all available, along with multi-bird groupings. The gallery below shows a range of the poses and habitat work completed in our studios, and we will help you pick the one that suits your space.

Can you mount a bird I harvested out of state or overseas?

Yes. We work with hunters, collectors, museums and nature centers across the country and abroad. You can drop your bird off at either Wisconsin studio or ship it to us frozen — see our shipping information before you send anything.

How should I care for my bird in the field?

Handle the bird as little as possible, keep the feathers smooth and dry, and avoid field dressing it. As soon as you can, tuck the bird’s head under its wing, place it in one or two Ziploc bags or garbage bags, and freeze it. Our field care guide covers this in more detail, and you are always welcome to call us before you head out.

Do you build full dioramas and museum displays?

Yes. Alongside single-bird mounts we produce custom bird groupings and full-scale dioramas for collectors, museums and nature centers. Tell us the space you are working with and we will design the piece around it.

How long does an upland bird mount take?

Turnaround varies by season and by how much habitat work the piece involves. Contact us with the details of your bird and we will give you an accurate timeframe for your project.

Where are your taxidermy studios located?

Every bird is built in our Jefferson studio. You can drop off or pick up there or at our New Franken (Green Bay area) showroom. Stehling’s Taxidermy has been family-owned and operated since 1978.
