Importing Birds from Other Countries
Stehling’s Taxidermy is a USDA-approved facility (W10015) for the import of restricted avian species. If you are planning an international hunt, we can assist with both the logistics and the required paperwork to ensure your trophies arrive safely and legally.
How It Works

1. Contact Us Before Your Hunt
-
Reach out before your trip so we can walk you through the procedures for bringing your birds back into the U.S.
-
We will provide you with our USDA facility number and shipping address, which must be listed on USDA VS Form 16-78 for customs clearance.
-
Even if you personally carry the birds back into the U.S., our facility information must be listed on the form, and the birds must come directly to us.

2. USDA Clearance Process
-
Upon arrival, all birds are placed into quarantine and processed in a dedicated USDA-restricted section of our Jefferson studio.
-
During this process:
-
Only trained, authorized staff are permitted in this area.
-
A detailed log of the clearance process is maintained, provided to the USDA, and available to our clients.
-
Once cleared, the birds move directly into our taxidermy workflow to be completed as mounts.
Important Notes
-
USDA clearance is available only to clients who are also using our taxidermy services.
-
Proper pre-hunt planning is essential — failure to have the correct forms or USDA facility information may result in your birds being confiscated at customs.
-
Contact us well in advance of your hunt so we can help prepare your paperwork and answer any questions.
