Standing Hooded Merganser Scene
Standing Hooded Merganser Scene | Custom Mounted merganser scene on a custom-made habitat base. With Snow and ice accents.
Hooded Merganser Mount
A drake hooded merganser mount is one of the most striking small duck mounts you can put on a shelf. The fan-shaped black-and-white crest, the thin serrated bill, and the rust flanks make a “hoodie” look like nothing else in the marsh. The standing drake in this scene is posed with the crest raised on a driftwood and water base, the way a courting bird looks in November. Stehling’s Taxidermy mounts hooded mergansers, common and red-breasted mergansers, and every other diver and sea duck in-house at our Jefferson, Wisconsin studio.
Hooded Merganser Mount Poses
Standing with the crest raised is the classic. Swimming on a clear water base, flying, or a drake-and-hen pair are also popular. Mergansers are fish eaters and hold oil in the skin, so proper degreasing matters more than with a mallard; it is the difference between a mount that stays white and one that yellows.
Hooded Merganser Mount Pricing
$575 for any hooded merganser pose. Driftwood and water bases are quoted with the mount. Pay in full, 50/50, three installments, or monthly through our Easy 8 Payment Plan. See the full price list.
Field Care
Carry the bird by the feet, keep the crest feathers dry and unruffled, wipe blood right away, and freeze it head-first in a nylon stocking or bag with the air squeezed out. Do not gut it.
