Pekania pennanti
The fisher is a big, dark, tree-climbing member of the weasel family — and one of the most dramatic small mammals to mount. Our fisher mounts are usually built climbing head-first down a driftwood wall panel, exactly the way a fisher comes down a tree.

How we mount fisher
A fisher’s coat is dark chocolate to nearly black with a grizzled head and shoulders on the males, and that frosting is what we work to preserve. The body is long and low with a rounded, cat-like head; we keep the face sharp and the ears small and set correctly so the animal does not turn into a generic “dark weasel.”
The signature Stehling’s fisher is a head-down climbing pose on a driftwood wall panel with pine boughs. We also build fishers on a driftwood limb over a habitat base, and life-size on a rock base.
Caring for your fisher in the field
- Do not skin the fisher. Keep it cool and freeze it whole in a sealed bag.
- Keep the head and shoulders clean — the grizzled guard hairs are the show.
- Tell us if it was trapped so we can plan the pose around any leg damage.

Fisher taxidermy FAQ
Are fishers rare?
They were once nearly gone from Wisconsin but were reintroduced and are now common in the north. A fisher is a limited-permit animal, so a mount is a real trophy.
What pose works best for a fisher?
Climbing head-first down a driftwood panel or tree section. It shows the length of the animal and the tail, and it is how a fisher naturally moves.
How much does a fisher mount cost?
Life-size fisher mounts are $2,000. Habitat bases are additional. Pay in full, 50/50, three installments, or monthly with our Easy 8 plan. See full pricing.
How long does a fisher mount take?
Delivery times vary by project. Contact us for current delivery times. Rush service is available on select orders.
