Stehling’s Taxidermy created this custom wallaby mount for Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, Wisconsin. Working to the caretakers’ specifications, we extensively modified the form and spent many hours refining the animal’s anatomy, facial expression and finishing details. The mount is intended for display in the zoo’s lobby.

The front and three-quarter views are studio photographs of the finished mount, with the backgrounds edited to black. They are not photographs of the zoo installation.

Built to the caretakers’ specifications

The zoo’s caretakers set out how they wanted the wallaby to look, and we worked to their specifications throughout the project.

Customizing the form

For this wallaby, the form provides the underlying body shape beneath the prepared skin. We extensively modified it to achieve the appearance specified by the zoo’s caretakers.

Anatomy, expression and finishing

Many hours went into modifying the form and refining the animal’s anatomy, facial expression and other finishing details.

Intended for the zoo’s lobby
