The Stehling’s have a rich history in hide tanning and taxidermy, dating back to the 1700’s in Germany( Prussia).
In the Mid 1800’s Charles Stehling took up the family trade of tanning. In the late 1800’s the Chas. H. Stehling company was founded in Milwaukee , WI. The business specialized in setting up and outfitting tanneries. The business quickly grew to one of the largest and most successful tannery outfitters in the country, supplying tanneries all over the world and revolutionizing the tanning process.

The Stehling tannery logo, stamped into each machine. Almost every tannery in North America had a piece of Stehling tanning equipment in it.
In 1978 Greg Stehling founded Greg’s Taxidermy. Greg saw the need for a more modern approach to the taxidermy process. Greg’s Taxidermy was one of the first shops to standardize the process of carving fish forms. Word quickly spread about the quality of the fish work and customers started sending fish in from across the country. Greg’s Taxidermy quickly grew to one of the largest fish taxidermy studios in the country.
In 2002 Greg’s Sons Aaron & Austin joined him in the taxidermy business. The name of the company was changed to Greg Stehling & Son’s Taxidermy .
Aaron & Austin Stehling eventually purchased the company and took over operations. The name was changed to Stehling’s Taxidermy LLC. The company continued to grow with the wildlife decor division serving major sporting goods retailers, restaurant chains, and biological supply companies . Sub contract work for other taxidermy studios and custom work for sportsmen also continued to expand across the country and around the world.
In 2015 the Stehling’s launched Taxidermy Insider® , an online taxidermy education web site. The Stehling’s pioneered online streaming of videos in the taxidermy industry. www.taxidermyinsider.com is the first web site in the taxidermy trade to offer the ability to buy full length training videos online, the first site to offer a monthly membership option and the first courses to offer online certification.
In 2016 Stehling’s Taxidermy expanded its growing operations to a new facility. This state of the art studio features the latest in taxidermy equipment and one of the most streamlined operations in the taxidermy industry.
